Latest Co-op ‘Good Causes’ Announced

The beneficiaries of this year’s ‘Local Community Fund’ courtesy of shoppers at the Ruddington Co-op have just been revealed. This time only two organisations have been selected specifically, rather than the previous three. Both are based in Clifton but one also serves our own community, thanks to village volunteers from Ruddington.

They are Dovecote Parents and Staff Association and Hope Church (NG11 FoodBank) which will share cash from the new round of funding – running from 21st October 2023 for the next 12 months.

Member Pioneer for Ruddington and Clifton, Gwen Eyre, explains: “The Ruddington Co-op store and the Co-op Funeralcare in Clifton are really excited to be working with these causes in the coming year.  Anyone can apply for a membership card for £1. Then, every time a member shops at Co-op, 2p for every £1 spent goes into your individual membership account. If you select a cause it will also get 2p per £1 of qualifying spend.”

You can select the local cause you would like to support from the two ‘default’ options – or choose another. If you do not select any specific cause, the Co-op will share the funds you raised three ways between the two listed below and national initiatives.

Dovecote Parents and Staff Association says it will use the money to develop a ‘forest school’ nature area – similar to the one at St Peter’s Junior School here in Ruddington – where its children can learn about climate change, ecosystems and nature in a hands-on environment.

Hope Church (NG11 FoodBank) says the cash raised will help them to purchase food items and essentials they desperately need to distribute to those in need, since the rising cost of living has directly affected public donations in Ruddington and Clifton, which are continuing to slow.

Members can log into their account and change the cause they support at any time during the coming year. Other alternatives nearby include Good Companions, St Paul’s Community & Wellbeing Hub and Edwalton Football Club.
